Community Bridges Identified as Methamphetamine Center for Excellence
Arizona Republic – February 22, 2006
PHOENIX - The state health department is giving more than $2 million to fight methamphetamine abuse in Maricopa and Pima counties and in the Gila River Indian Community.
The grants are part of an effort to increase awareness of methamphetamine use and treat those addicted to the illegal substance.
The largest grant, $1.5 million, will go to Community Bridges in Phoenix. The program targets adults in mental health and drug courts who have been identified with a methamphetamine problem.
Tea's the Season for Hope
- "Tea for Two" Baby Shower to Benefit the Mothers and Infants of the Center for Hope
- The Ritz-Carlton Phoenix, Sunday, Nov. 13
"Many different occasions have been celebrated over afternoon tea, but at 'Tea for Two' we are celebrating hope," said Kristen Polin, Community Relations Director from the Center for Hope.
"Tea for Two," sponsored by Caring for Women and Starbucks, is a baby shower tea party to benefit the women and infants of the Center for Hope - an important new program that helps pregnant women and new moms overcome histories of domestic violence, sexual abuse, co-occurring disorders, and homelessness. The event will be held at The Ritz-Carlton Phoenix on Sunday, Nov. 13. Two seatings are available to choose from: noon or 3 p.m. This lovely afternoon will feature the Ritz's elegant full tea menu in their beautiful lobby lounge. "When you have tea with us, you will be giving the Center's expectant moms hope of healthy pregnancies, healthy babies and a chance to turn their lives into positive directions," said Polin. "The program's primary goal is to help these expectant mothers to overcome their past histories of abuse, learn positive life skills, and bring a healthy baby into the world."
Jeffrey Hattrick, Tea Maitre D' at The Ritz-Carlton, says "service is very intimate at the tea - it should be neither expected nor intrusive". And that's the premise behind the unique theme, "Tea for Two". This is a fundraising event where you can bring your friends, family, co-workers or clients to have great conversation, build a relationship, celebrate an occasion of your own, or just relax without the interruptions of speeches or presentations - all to benefit a great cause.
This traditional afternoon tea includes an array of delicious finger sandwiches; a second course of fresh baked scones with lemon curd, cream and jam; and indulging in a beautiful presentation of desserts, with your choice of tea, of course. Each guest will receive a "Promise of Hope" bag containing items rumored to be worth more than the cost of their ticket. Event guests will also be able to bid on silent auction items and guests bringing a baby shower gift will receive a free ticket entering them into a special raffle. Shower gifts of all price ranges are appropriate from clothing to strollers or high chairs. For your convenience, the Center for Hope is also registered with Babies "R" Us.
"Tea for Two" tickets cost $125 per person. For reservations, payment, and information please contact Renee Moore, 602-920-4345, or reneemoore2@yahoo.com.
